Carrier in the USA
Nowadays there is a lot of recruiting companies in Russia. They are engaged in employment assistance abroad, in the USA and Canada particularly, for the citizens of Russia. It’s caused by the need in specialists in building, engineering, medical, pedagogical and other domains. Besides many people in Russia are eager to find a job abroad in order to earn more than at home. And the companies as mentioned above help them, since employment via these organisations is easier and more reliable than an independent job search. Russians often begin their carrier in the USA since the student age. They take part in the program Work and Travel USA or Work and Study USA. They are for the students aged 19 to 23 who want to work in the USA during their summer vacations. The participants of the programs get the J1 exchange visa. During a year after leaving a higher school a graduate may pass a training course in his speciality in the USA under the Intership program. The same J1 exchange visa is given to the participants. If one participates in the program more than twice he may get the refusal in participation for the third time. Then, he is able to work in the USA with an H2B temporal job visa, which expires after a year and may be prolongated. As for the specialists with the higher education who has got a job in the USA, they may get an H1B job visa and later – a Green Card. Visas are issued after an interview in the US Embassy. The Green Card is a residence permit in the USA, an attribute of a permanent resident of the USA. The Green Card gives a number of right to its owner: - a right to live constantly within the USA, - a right to work in any post and in any speciality in any company on the territory of the USA, - a right for a private enterprise, - a right to leave and come back to the USA freely, - a right to petition for one’s relatives to get a status of a resident, - a right for the Naturalization i.e. the US citizenship. But the Green Card imposes some limitations and responsibilities: - one has no vote in elections in the USA, - one cannot visit without a visa the countries which are open the US citizens, - one cannot leave the USA longer than for 6 months, but it’s possible to get a reentry permit if one have any proves of the purpose of his voyage, - one have to pay taxes, - men at the age of 18 to 26 must enlist to the US Armed Force though there is no obligator draft nowadays, - temporal Green Cards may be issued to a spouse of a US citizen, the are valid for 2 years. If the marriage lasts longer than that the Green Card becomes constant. To visit Canada it’s necessary to get any non immigration visa (tourist, guest or business visa). In future staying in Canada a candidate may: - work within the state until the visa expires without changing the immigration status (the visa may be prolongated); - according to the Canada immigration law, use the official procedure of changing of the immigration status which permits to get a legal job and to stay within the country up to 5 years (the maximum term). Those who apply for changing of the immigration status may receive a residence permit after a first year passed in Canada. Employment in Canada requires the knowledge of English and French, while in the USA one must speak only English. The better your English (French) the higher your salary. However life and work in a foreign country may be dangerous so one must think well before leaving his motherland in a race for a better life. | |
